Turnip cake ~ Radish cake ~ Bánh củ cải ~ Bánh may mắn

One time, I came to my uncle apartment and he showed me a new cuisine – Turnip cake (Radish Cake). Er, I’ve never tried this before and I don’t like radish so I’m not impressed with that cake much. But recently, when I was at the supermarket I noticed the ingredients of frozen radish cake and kind of ….*WOW, this is not bad at all, it may taste good with the coconut…*  I couldn’t find the price and forgot to take a pic of it…

So, next delicious cuisine is Radish Cake (Bánh Củ Cải)

I. Introduction:

Turnip cake is a Chinese dim sum dish made of shredded radish and plain rice flour.
It is commonly served in Cantonese yum cha and is usually cut into square-shaped slices and sometimes pan-fried before serving. Each pan-fried cake has a thin crunchy layer on the outside from frying, and soft on the inside. The non-fried version is soft overall. It is one of the standard dishes found in the dim sum cuisine of Hong Kong, China, and overseas Chinatown restaurants. It is also commonly eaten during Chinese New Year, since radish is a homophone for “good fortune” in Hokkien.]In Taiwan, turnip cake is also commonly eaten as part of a breakfast.

II. Receipt (The conclusion from so many sources)

800gr shredded white radish (củ cải chắc, nặng, mộng nước) (for steamed use  more radish, for fried use more floor hmm, I think the soften or harden of the cake depend on this rate I like it would be soft so… more Radish  and water, I think I will try with the ratio 2:1)

Rice flour (with the rate 1 flour – 2 water)  tapioca flour (bột mì) *just a little*

Dried shrimps, softened and roughly chopped

Fried shallots, peanuts cooked well, sugar, pepper, salt

III.

This Process of cooking is following this vid *quite useful information*

After cooking, I like this shape so much, so cute, *trắng trắng mềm mềm, ngoan ngoãn, muốn cắn cho 1 miếng, thật là cưng*

There are many ways to eat this delicious cake

Steamed

Fired

And… with egg *yummy*

Radish Cake in Dark Sweet Sauce

Ingredient (1 serving)

      • 250gm radish cake, cubed
      • 4 heap tbsp preserved radish, rinsed in water to remove excess salt
      • 1 tbsp minced garlic
      • 1 heap tbsp kicap manis, dark sweet sauce
      • 2 eggs, lightly beaten with pinch of salt
      • dash of pepper
      • handful of chopped spring onion

Method

      1. Heat 1 tbsp in pan, add preserved radish & garlic and fry till fragrant and lightly brown.
      2. Add in cubed radish cake and mix briefly. Stir in sweet sauce and coat the radish cake evenly.
      3. Drizzle in beaten eggs and pepper. Cook till egg is set. Toss in spring onion and give a quick stir. Serve at once

This course is included in Dim Sum, quiet easy to make and can store for a long time. I think it’s really suitable to be dinner snack or breakfast for my family *in DaLat*  … Except for the fact that it’s kind of fried food so will my parent like it *especially my Dad, he can’t eat hard food* Hmm,  oh ye, I can’t make this be soft and steamed if they like.

Okie, after I buy the frozen one at the super market, I will try it at home, and consider to use coconut powder in this cake.
Phew~ today, many news happened. I’m in a unidentified mood but it’s surely not good. Radish make my day because it is a symbol of luck.
